Offset your infidelity!

Leave it to the Brits to get all cheeky when it comes to the green movement — now, instead of just offsetting your carbon guilt whenever you hop on a plane, you can offset your cheating ways!

Just head over to CheatNeutral and sign up as either a monogamous do-gooder or an unfaithful prig and the organizers will take it from there.

Great post!! Hilarious concept that helps point out the ridiculousness of Carbon offsetting. However, there is a lot more to carbon offsetting that they fail to mention. While the site and messaging would clearly be lost in minutia and far less entertaining if they were to discuss the details,

I think its equally important to know a few things about Carbon Offsetting that they fail to address. Firstly, offsetting is only a temporary solution that even the companies offering the credits know. The principle objective of offering “guilt” credits for our carbon creating habits is to work towards a price equilibrium in the renewable energy industry. Meaning that the costs to operate and maintain renewable energy is equal to the demand. Currently, the demand has not reached the point where competition weeds out the weaker players and the price to go green made possible for both western and developing nations.

Secondly, offsetting allows investments of renewable energy technology to be developed and used in some poorer developing nations, like China, where their economy is releasing tremendous amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. It also allows a real possibility for further investment into renewable energy technology in countries like China that very well might opt to go solar or wind as opposed to coal or even nuclear.

This of course is a simplistic commentary on an issue that is far more complicated to address in a blog post, but one that hopes provides some food for thought.
