This is a great alternative to promote. It is a really popular product with long-distance backpackers here in the States, and that is how I heard about it. I was surprised at how well the DivaCup works, and I wish that more women would give it a chance, because it really is easy to use. If more women could use this, or just try it, then we could really cut down on the waste produced by disposable products. Thanks for including the interview!

I have been a faithful DivaCup user since the summer of 2003, and before that I used The Keeper (which I lost during a move - feel bad for the person who found that one!). I cannot express my love for this little cup. No leakage even on heavy flow days, fewer cramps, and I'm saving the money and putting significantly less into the landfills.

Thanks for posting this interview.

I've never been comfortable with the idea of a menstrual cup; even though reading the article and studying the website has enhanced my "ew, gross, absolutely not!" reaction, I'm grateful for the simple, honest voice you presented. I feel like I have a real basis for my opinions now, which means no more feelings of guilt. I may eschew every other disposable thing in the world, but I'll stick with tampons until something that is truly better for me comes along.

Thanks for this great post! I'm a washable cloth pad girl myself, but have used the Keeper and think that the menstrual cup is a great idea. Speaking of the early onset of puberty... has anyone read this report from the Breast Cancer Fund: "The Falling Age of Puberty in US Girls" ? http://www.breastcancerfund.org/site/pp.asp?c=kwKXLdPaE&b=3266509
