Oh, and I LOVE green smoothies. I'm a fan of the good ol water, spinach and banana (sometimes I throw in some hot hot pepper...YUM!)

Cheers!

I chop all my veggies as soon as I can get them, then throw them in the freezer. The scraps get put in a diff bag, which is later used to make stock, which is frozen as ice cubes and then also put in the freezer. Leaves very little room for pizzas and the like

Also, as an aside, I don't know what you did to your RSS but it rocks! How did you do that?

Great idea. Just wondering - is the wand-shaped blender that you use an immersion style device? I've always wondered if those would work for blending ice in a smoothie. If not an immersion blender, what style is it? I'd love to know how better to blend our morning smoothies. Thanks!

Choppin' broccoliiiiii! Choppin broccoleye-yay-yay! I'm going to have to bookmark that and play it for my kids, who can't figure out why I sing that. And oh, it's Phil Hartman. *sniff*

We just eat chunky vegetable soup. Not so much to save electricity, but because I am lazy ;)

Thanks for a great blog!

You might also skip the stick blender altogether and use a thrift store-purchased (and hand powered) food mill. Never used one myself, but Ina Garten of Food TV swears by them for veggie soups.

Another tip for this simple, intelligent lifestyle is to always save the vegetables water. If you keep a glass container with vegetable water (stock) - you can used it for your soups, all legumes, potatoes, rice, pasta, oatmeal (try it) - whatever. Lots of nutrients are in that water, you are being careful with water use and you invite greater depth of flavor.

My apologies if you have already discussed this. I tried to read as many archived posts as I could this weekend, but I may have missed this.

I would love to read a live blogging forum at the end of your year - along with No Impact Man, Greenpa (Little Blog In the Woods), Crunchy Chicken, Chile Chews and others. I intend to begin my own challenge in January 2008 and all of you I have named have inspired me and others I am sure. This is my Winter Solstice fantasy.
