Please excuse the shortest Thistle post ever. I’m sorry, but for the sake of my reputation, not to mention the fact that my parents, colleagues and ex-boyfriends are probably reading this, I simply cannot say more than:

hm! sweetheart, oil-based anything will destroy latex condoms. and of course there are fine times for a lady to use lube that don’t involve a boy or a condom, but promoting coconut oil as a substitute for lube without mentioning that it will destroy a latex condom seems a bit unwise.
Agreed on the oil-based products. Try something water-based, like this: http://www.sylkonline.com/
Omg dahlia, you are TOTALLY right — guess I just haven’t used the latter form of contraceptive in a little while… but I’m not going to get into specifics here. But yes, and Elise makes a good point, in that there are other water-based natural alternatives that would be just as effective!
Does coconut oil count as oil? I always thought that it refered to petroleum based oils. Treehugger.com posted this a while back.

Shout outs to the STMT…
Way to take one for the cause!
While I applaud the comedy of any lube that has “extra virgin” right in the name, clean up of oil based lube is a pain. 3 days later people at the office will still be asking if you just came back from Hawaii.

According to Wikipedia, coconut oil is not good for condoms. However, there is some luscious natural lubricant developed by Lorna Vanderhaeghe which you can find here

If condoms are not an issue, I think coconut oil is great. Neither I nor my house nor my bed smells like the tropics, and who cares if it did. Plus, I love a multitasker and who doesn’t love something that is a lotion, you can cook with it, put it in smoothies etc.
