Cheers from the eco-friendly peanut gallery (Day 169)…

packing peanuts

A little while ago, one of my wonderful readers wrote in to say that she’d been working on a natural perfume line and was hoping she could send me some samples to test out. Well, I was more than happy to oblige, so I gave her my mailing address and a week or so later received this bounty of pretty-smelling, all-natural products (in the photo above).

The best part, though, was that she’d sent it all in a box with biodegradable, soy-based packing peanuts (OK, actually, the best part was probably the sweetly intoxicating gardenia perfume stick, but I’ll save that for another post).

They’re such a great alternative to the styrofoam variety, so I made sure to keep them on hand for whenever I needed to send a package of fragile this-n-that to somebody, which just so happened to be the case recently. So while I will try my best not to mail heavy, bulky packages regularly on account of the carbon cost, if I do need to, I’ll be using eco-friendly materials to do it.

Thanks again, Anji! I’ll write more about your products when I switch to natural perfumes 🙂

aren’t these the coolest!? a recent order from cosmosveganshoppe.com came packed in them. my dog got one and started chewing on it and it sorta dissolved into a weird sticky substance in his mouth. I hope that they catch on!

Aww, thanks Lisa! I am e-blushing… I’m currently away in Muskoka, on a cottage on an island where there’s no Internet, which means my posts are a little short and wonky as of late and I’ve been a little out of touch on the green blogging scene, but I’ll make sure to check out the award and your blog as soon as I get back to civilization!

I’ve seen things packed in popcorn as well. Compostable and nice smelling too.

They are so cool. I had just washed my hands after getting a package with those in there, and one started dissolving in my moist mitts. Then I popped it in my mouth before really reflecting on the consequences. I didn’t die!
