I built a battery powered bicycle but the only trouble was when I went out of range and had to peddle back. My alternative is a 50cc scooter. It gets around 100 miles per gallon. I have actually run out of gas 3 times because I forget to buy gas. I add 1.5 gallons every 2 weeks or so. No tags, no registration, no insurance so that saves me a ton of money as well. I drive to and from work (neatpleats.com) everyday just a few miles to my little paper fan shop where I turn old closeout wallpaper and recycled paper, into paper fans and lamps. I am the only one left doing that. Its my life but I have to watch my expenses, hence the scooter. Saving money has its rewards.

YOU GO GIRL! Giving up my car later this month as I move from Florida (yuk) to a small New England town, I CAN’T WAIT!!! I am so tired of cars, they cost too much, they smell, and they are dangerous. I really can’t believe residents of the “first world” got so duped by such a corrupt system as that offered up as “FreeDumb” by the big three auto makers and their big oil counterparts. Good riddence to the car and the boring subarban lifestyle that goes with it. Want a really good critique of the auto crazy socity look up James H Kunstler’s (author of the Long Emergency) website at http://www.kunstler.com he does a great job of explaing the problem of cars and the riduclious zoning laws that wrecked our country.
