My friend Sarah Pretty, who admits to being obsessed with interdental hygiene, recently pointed me in the direction of Eco-Dent floss, which is marketed not as all-natural or environmentally friendly, but “vegan waxed.”
Well, I don’t particularly want my floss to be waxed with, or by, vegans. But I do get the occasional bit of green wedged in between my pearly whites and I definitely prefer buying the stuff in a recyclable paper box as opposed to in a bulky plastic container (even worse are those ridiculous floss-on-a-stick contraptions).
I tried it out today and it’s just as strong and minty fresh as any brand-name floss. Also, I’m totally digging this company’s adorable logo,
which reminds me a bit of Fido Dido.

Where are all the commenters? You’re doing some excellent and inspiring work here, and I was afraid you might find the silence that greets so many of your posts to be discouraging. Between you and No Impact Man and the trendy greens at Treehugger and half-a-zillion others, I can spend half the day challenging myself to shrink my footprint even more.

I’m still here! I’ve just been busy trying to chase & catch my artistic muse the last couple of days. I have to strike while the iron is hot when she makes an appearance!

Frozen assets
This day just took a completely dramatic and unexpected turn. I was just going about my usual blog round, which includes a stop at Little Blog In the Big Woods. Greenpa’s seemingly insane suggestion that everyone should get rid of their fridge…

I guess you needed the floss after last night’s “Stand Up” for Passover dinner. Did you know Matzoh was made from recycled cardboard?

Thanks Mark! I know, it’s a little ironic that you could spend an entire day surfing “green” websites and in the process use up hours of precious electricity. And thanks for a great dinner last night Ron! I thought that recycled cardboard tasted great!

Very cool. I haven’t seen this before. Nice that the packaging isn’t plastic. Thanks for the tip.

Pretty funny comment on ‘vegan waxed’
There has to be a better way to write that, instead of implying that vegans were involved in the production of the floss.

Hey, what’s wrong with vegans waxing floss? I’m a vegan, and while I don’t actually know how to wax floss, I’m sure I’d do as fine a job as anybody once properly trained. I’m a quick learner! Oh, I get it, you meant you don’t want the wax to be made out of vegans. Hah! Good one.
Good to know there’s no plastic in the Eco-Dent floss, though.

I’m curious about this floss. What shape is it – the round kind or the flat tape-like kind? My teeth are really tight together so I need to use the flatter eez-thru kind, but would love to switch to something with less plastic. Has anyone found a place in Canada that sells it?
