Post no bills (Day 10)…

… paper ones, that is. Unfortunately there’s no photo to go with this one, but my green move on this grey Saturday is to cancel all my bills in their hard-copy form and switch to electronic billing only. It’s a simple move, and to be honest I don’t understand why more people don’t do it — it’s as though there’s still a wariness with e-anything, like if it doesn’t go down on paper, it might not actually exist. While some may claim they need paper copies for tax purposes, in the rare case that you do get audited, will you really be asked for that cable bill from ’98? Besides, companies do keep records and can always mail you specific statements if required.

Oh, Vanessa, my husband would say you are a brave, brave woman. He was Officially Freaked Out when I suggested this to him, Packrat of the Highest Order that he is.

  2. Just make sure you download and archive your statements, and don’t just leave them online for viewing — we did this for years with Rogers Cable/Internet, and then they made some change to their system and we lost years of statements. . . and yes, we DID have auditors wanting to see them! Rogers couldn’t even manage to replace one recent (at the time) paper statement (different account) that we lost when our basement apt. flooded. Don’t think you can always easily retrieve past statements from these companies. It may not be the greenest, but we do request paper copies now.
